Guidelines for verification of structural timber products

New Guidelines that will help timber processors meet their structural property compliance responsibilities will be developed by A3P in conjunction with TimberEd Services and with funding support from Forest and Wood Products Australia.

The “Guidelines for Verification of Structural Timber” will assist large and small producers to demonstrate product compliance with respect to structural timber. All types of hardwood and softwood solid stress graded timber products will be covered as well as new grading methods yet to be applied commercially in Australia.

This action is being taken in response to the increasing industry awareness regarding structural property compliance responsibilities and the lack of available guidance for producers wanting to demonstrate they are complying with the relevant standards and meeting their broader obligations under the Trade Practices Act.

Industry provided input to the document at two workshops held in December 2007 and March 2008. The document is currently being revised based on this input and is due for completion in August 2008.

A3P will seek recognition of the document as an Australian Standard
