Plantation InvestmentAttracting long-term investment to establish and re-establish timber plantations continues to be a significant challenge for the plantation industry. This is particularly the case for long-rotation plantations required to produce logs for sawn timber, veneer and engineered wood products, demanded by the domestic market.
To achieve this objective requires the maintenance of a stable and predictable regulatory and tax environment that supports continued large-scale plantation forestry investment through investment vehicles such as managed investment schemes. It also requires the development of consistent and supportive land-use regulation by state and local governments, and wide community recognition of the environmental and economic benefits of well-managed timber plantations.
Confidence in a consistent long-term supply of this resource underpins continued investment in new and upgraded regionally-based processing infrastructure.
A3P is an active partner with governments and other industry bodies in supporting the implementation of the national plantations strategy, Plantations for Australia: The 2020 Vision, and continues to be strongly engaged in the Federal Government’s policy and regulatory processes that affect plantation investment.
